Because our fears are being brought to life onscreen infront of our eyes, we tell ourselves it's not real, but it could be. Lots of Horror movies have aspects of things that have happened in real life.
People have told stories of Excorsisms or have claimed to be possesed by demons for centuries.
Same with Witches and Vampires.
Every child hates nightmares but to think that you could be killed in your nightmares like Freddy Krueger does is a scary thing, and Freddy was a child murderer as well.
And kids think that their toys are alive but to have your toy try to take over your body or try to kill you, like Chucky in Child's Play.
Some Killers in movies are based or have aspects about them, that real murderers have used in real life. Ed Gein, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson.
Stories like Candyman and Bloody Mary have been told for centuries to scare children.
People like to be scared, and in the world today many of these Horror movies could be true.
I have always loved Horrors since I was a kid, My best friend hates them, when we were younger we used to watch them alot. The most she was scared was after we watched Candyman, it was 12am in the morning when it finished, she needed to go to the toilet the house was dark, and she didn't want to go by herself, I told he she would be fine aslong as she didn't say Candyman into the Mirror 5 times she freaked out even more I had to go with her and talk to her through the door. We laugh about those times now, but she is still jumpy, she even jumped alot in Van Helsing and that wasn't scary.

It is so realistic it can remind people, who are already steeped in a culture of foolish mysticism, from their religious upbringing and other lies like Santa Claus, ghosts, UFOs and monsters, that they should be looking over their shoulder more often, stay out of the dark, close their eyes to reality, for fear of the unknown.
People go to see those movies hoping for proof of the unreal. The more scared I become, the more horror I see, the more my hope, that there is a god, will present some real evidence for me, so I do not have to keep wondering. Because believing in lies is so hard and takes so much effort, but without those lies they will have to start to think and become real persons in this world, now, and take responsibility for themselves.
It's so much easier if the supernatural is after us and we can just hide like animals and do magic tricks to ward them off. And if we die in some horrible way, we will be rewarded then for our life long suffering.

I can only speak for me...
...But the last significantly scary movie I saw was the Grudge--the Sam Raimi Americanized remake with Sarah Michelle Gellar.
And the reason I was scared was for two reasons...
...The first is that I'm a creative sort of person. When I watch a movie, I tend to leave reality at the door and just let myself believe whatever I see as long as I'm watching it.
...The other reason is I'm somewhat susceptible to nightmares. Go figure.

well, I can tell you why I don't watch them - for one, the real world is bad enough without making up more horror. For another, I hate the thought that people can come up with such sick stuff and think it's fun and make money off of it. Then there are the copycats, who see this stuff and go out and do it. The world would be a better place without it.

in simple terms shop telling your self it is not actual. Or close your eyes once you think of a frightening section is springing up. My mom raised me on horror video clips so i do no longer bear in suggestions what my first horror action picture replaced into like. i've got been gazing them on condition that i replaced right into a toddler so horror video clips do no longer probably scare me. i'm incredibly slightly upset i don't get scared haha.

Sometimes, imagination exceeds. There are people who can't control their imagination. They imagine the scene and makes them horrified.
In my case, I feel afraid and my day becomes terrible become I can't avoid to imagine the horrible scenes. I even dream about them at night time.
