What it showed was the tremendous pressure on gay men to succumb to the way that society deemed was acceptable for them. The men in this film had little choice. What would they do...end up battered and murdered like the other couple? That is still an all-to-common scenerio. Gays aren't weak and messed up...the society that caused this is what is weak and screwed up. If you are totally heterosexual then you have no idea of the pain involved in coming out...of losing your job, your friends, your family, yes and sometimes your life...all because of who you are
attracted to. Times have eased somewhat since the time that that movie was trying to portray ---but not all that much!

I am gay. I didn't care for brokeback mountain for that reason among the horrible depiction of sex. The emotional ties were written satisfactorily. I happen to be a strong willed person to which I believe in family values as well. It may sound like an oxymoron statement. I am more a conservative homo than liberal. I even have some issues with gay marriage to where I feel that it could adversely effect HMO and other health insurances. I appreciate your question and open to listening rather than prejudging. Thank you

The movie was pro gay! It showed how hard it is to be gay and be able to live in a world where your sexual identity is so important. I'm a straight female, and I watched Brokeback Mountain and thought it was a a great film.
The two of them couldn't be themselves out in public and had to hide their romance from everyone because society did not accept it.
It wasn't trying to say that gays are weak. If you thought that that is what it was saying, then did you think that it was also saying that all straight people are hateful and cruel and harm innocent people just because of their sexual orientation?
I bet you've never met a gay person and got to know them and listened to what they have to say and how they feel.

I suggest you watch the movie again and look a little deeper at what these men had to go through. The pain and the lose each one of the characters; not just the guys, suffered because of "societies rules". Also, stop trying to hide your erection during the sex scenes.
True love between two consenting adults should be accepted in whatever form it takes. There is far too little love in the world and far too much hate. There are also far too many closed minded people that commit horrible acts in the name of God. I'm sure there is a special level of Hell for each and every one of them.

I never saw the movie but my sister said it was about 2 gay men who had to pretend to be straight because in the time of the movie it wasn't acceptable. Can you imagine having to pretend to be gay even though you weren't because being straight wasn't acceptable? I felt bad for them going by what she said

I believe it is pro gay. It shows the struggle people have throughout their life in general. It shows how people deal with it and what can happen.

I personally didn't watch the movie...I heard from my friends that it is pro gay...Well, in my opinion, I think that gays are strong...since they take the initiative to tell others that they are gay...showing their bravery and courage...i'm not sure...this is my opinion

I think that it was a period piece, and you need to make allowances for that. And I think it was meant to show what a terrible position people were placed in: both men, I think it was shown, really did care for their families. But they also knew that that wasn't "right" for them.
