I am afraid chasing the speed of light is exactly the same as chasing the end of a rainbow....the harder we try, the no closer we get.
This is partly because time itself is an artifact of the human memory, and the universe only has one end. That is the end where you are right now. You experience the universe through your senses from where you are. No matter how far or how fast you travel, you will always be experiencing the universe through your senses (body), no matter where it is.
Anyway, "speed" is not a characteristic of light, it is a characteristic of our senses only.

In nuclear physics, there is conjecture that sub-atomic particles can exceed the speed of light due to their wave nature, but it seems unlikely that anything of appreciable mass will be able to do this. Wormholes are still very conjectural except in Deep Space 9.

Hay we already have a group of people traveling at light speed and traveling through worm holes.
You don't believe me just watch a Congressman or Senator taking a bribe.

We need a working nuclear fusion reactor to travel to other stars. We're getting closer but the research needs more funding.
