1. An HDMI cable is the only video cable that currently supports a true high definition signal.
2. No, the ps3 does not. Decent HDMI cables start around $50. They weren't included with the ps3 because with so few people's entertainment set-ups supporting high definition signals, it wouldn't have been cost effective.
3. As the HDMI is the only cable which can relay a Hi-Def signal to your tv, it's really the only option if you want to take advantage of the superior video quality that the ps3 is capable of when paired with a high definition television set.
