I don't know an exact answer to your question about cold hard numbers....BUT your question should have included the words, "misguided" retaliation. Iraq had absolutely NOTHING to do with 911. Al Quieda did, and we have killed few of them. Osama Bin Laden still roams free, and he was the 911 mastermind. American retaliation for the terrorist attacks that happened in New York, Washington DC and Shanksville PA, has been misguided, mis calculated, and mismanaged. You cannot retaliate against an entity which has caused you no harm. Saddam Hussein harmed his own people, which is disgusting, but he harmed none of our people, leaving us nothing to retaliate against.

Less than 3,000 were killed which is a small percentage of the Americans killed by their fellow citizens every year ( no memorials for them).
As a consequence. hundreds of thousands of other innocent civilians have been killed in the Middle East and Afghanistan, many of them children
