what is the best way to tell my friends this next time at our sleepovers? because it really pisses me off that they dont listen to me. they care more about entertainment than about their eyes
their excuse for last night was, "o my gosh we are watching the ring 2 its suppose to be dark when we watch moves like that".

No, there is nothing wrong with watching the television in the dark. There is something wrong with focusing on it too closely like spending too much time on your computer screen but that has a lot to do with the shape of the screen and the glare off the screen. There is no glare coming off your television in the dark and hopefully you are not staring directly at the screen. Here's a clue, if you can see the green, red, and blue pixels then you are too close to the television. And sith digital combing these days you shouldn't see them anyway.

Here's a thought to ask you parents, if it is so bad to stare at the screen in the dark why do you watch movies in the dark at the theater. The fact that you are staring into the light makes no nevermind. It is not ultraviolet and it is not right up in your eyes like a laser. Looking straight into a laser pointer will in fact make you go blind because it damages the retina, but a laser is a concentrated light aimed at a specific point , in this case your retina. A television is a mixture of shades of light forming an image on a screen in a reflective process. You are actually seeing a reflected image and not the direct light image. Your parents must think it is the other way around.

And if you are worried about youe eyes being damaged sit further back from the creen or go to sleep.

Tv In The Dark

yes it makes your eyes strain to see, which is probably why most people get tired while watching tv, the pupil in the eye is constantly adjusting in size to the different levels of light, so it could cause eye fatigue. That is, it makes your eyes tired and could make it temporarily harder to focus. It's not likely to cause permanent damage.
