In each and every one of us there is a "Spark" whose purpose is to become a "Flame." This spark is the center of our humanness—the real you! Regardless of how many times you have felt defeated and alone, your "spark" remains. There are times when fear may bury it, and times
when you may doubt that it is still there. Yet it remains.

Now this spark has an energy all of its own and desires to become a FLAME. To accomplish this purpose you must identify its existence and give it life. And when it begins to flame, you begin to live from a solid core of self and get the life that you genuinely deserve.

The greater a person’s flame (self-esteem) the more this spark will flame. As your self-esteem grows the real self becomes the basis for the life that we live. For self-esteem is the health of the mind, and is the single most important psychological subject in the world.

Self-esteem is:
1. confidence in our ability to think,
2. confidence in our ability to cope with the basic challenges of life;
3. confidence in our right to be successful and happy, and
4. the feeling of being worthy, deserving, entitled to assert our needs and wants, achieve our values, and enjoy the fruits of our efforts.

The more solid our self-esteem, the better equipped we are to cope with troubles that arise in our personal lives or in our careers; the quicker we are to pick ourselves up after a fall; the more energy we have to begin anew.

The higher our self-esteem, the more ambitious we tend to be.

Here’s a few ways to protect your self-esteem:

· Low self-esteem feeds on negative messages and thoughts. So don’t indulge in self criticism.

· Don’t always try to please others. It is considerate when you care about the feelings of others, but don’t neglect yourself!

· Don’t try to be like someone else. This leads to lack of self worth and confidence. You are unique and you cannot be someone else. Strive to be you!

· Don’t take life so seriously. After all, you’re not going to get out of it alive anyway! If you make
mistakes or even fail in some endeavor, that simply means you are not successful YET.
Everybody fails on their way to succeeding, don’t look on it as failure but as a means to learning. Problems can make you stronger if you strive to overcome them.

· Focus on your needs and desires. This will increase your confidence and assuredness.

· Focus on your successes. Lack of confidence feeds on your feelings of failure and inadequacy. Remember the truly successful things you have accomplished in your life.

· Use positive affirmations and quotes. Read them every day or when you are feeling negative and need inspiration.

· Focus on your strengths. Use them. You will succeed if you are true to yourself.

· Feed your brain. Read inspiring books—they will really help you..

I could make this easy for you by saying lower all of your standards, but I'm sure that's not what you want to hear. I could say something like: improvise, adapt and overcome with effective procurement, but what does that really tell you.
So hear is what you really need to know: Love what you do, and work hard at it. When times get hard (and they will) don't give-up, overcome the problem. When you don't know what to do improvise. When things can't go the way you want adapt. Do these with zeal and you will reach your attainable goals. Notice I said attainable goals and not all goals. I child may want to be Superman but he may not be able to attain it. This would be a case where he may need to lower his standards.
