1) virus-make sure its dat files are up to date (update it) and run a scan.
2) Switch to firefox browser-it uses less resources and its not as buggy as IE; download it here, at cnets’ download.com: http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3000-2356_4-10597816.html?tag=lst-0-5
(this link to firefox 2 is for all windows, if you use a mac, search download.com for the other).
3) You may have installed a new program which is sucking up your computers resources, or maybe a program is now running (in the back ground) and you don’t know it. ctrl-alt-del will bring up a window that shows you some of what is running. Check your start up menu (for more) or a whole list by doing this:
Start>run>type in “msinfo32”>new window opens click on “tools”>click on “system config utility”>new window opens click on “start up tab”> your WHOLE list of whats running in the background. If you don’t know something, don’t uncheck it. just uncheck the boxes of programs you know and don’t want running all the time. Also, when you use a program (almost any program) it is set to automatically add itself to your startup list you just accessed (realplayer is one such program), so each program you must find the ‘options’ for it and set it to NOT come on at start up.
4) downloading AdAware will help dig out junk and spyware on your computer, which helps clean it up freeing resources also; http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1
5) ADAWARE and FIREFOX are both free, so don’t worry about that.
6) If you use AOL, your screwd, for it attaches itself to tons of files, trys to govern your machine, as well as bogs down machines in many cases.
7) You may need more ram
8) Your ram may be going bad

Could be something else, but this will at least help free up your machine a bit.

What browser are you using? I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 and my pc freezes alot now too. They have not worked all the bugs out of I E 7 yet so i would recommend going back to 6 if that is your problem.
