For the most part, every species of plant/animal seems to have two different genders. Why do you guys think that different genders evolved?

Well, I'm not a guy but I am a biologist. Key words: Genetic variability. Meaning, this enhances the qualities of inheritable traits from generation to generation, and also provides the source for mutations, which natural selection may act upon as a species progresses.

The scientific explanation as for the presence of two sexes in a species is for the increase in variability. The most agreed upon explanation is that species evolve and differentiate into two sexually different genders so that reproduction occurs sexually and a greater variety of characteristics occur in their offspring. The increase in variability in species increases their chance of survival given an unexpected environmental change. Species which only have one sex can only reproduce asexually, that is, they basically clone themselves and their offspring are identical to themselves. The reason why this is rare in nature is because, generation after generation, the species stay exactly the same and this is a disadvantage for when environmental change occurs and they are unable to adapt.

Those who believe in religion and the creation of species and different genders spontaneously, have the right to believe in what they will. I am simply giving you the scientific reasons for which their is evidence and facts based on it.

Variation is the reason for sexual reproduction ... but not necessarily for specialized genders. Many life forms have sexual reproduction, but not specialized genders ... e.g. most flowering plants have both types of organs, and can in fact self-polinate.

The most likely explanation is that it is a much more efficient use of energy and resources to have dedicated males and females. Note that this is not always genetic ... bees, for example become male or female depending on what they are fed during the larval stage.

Incidentally, not only are most flowering plants not specialized genders, but there are some animals that are partially, or completely hermaphroditic (individuals being both male or female at some point in their lives). Examples are certain clownfish, wrasses (a kind of reef fish), hamlets (another kind of fish), earthworms, and banana slugs. And there are some asexually reproducing animals as well: aphids, daphnias, rotifers, and some genera of fish, amphibians, and even reptiles ... although usually sexually reproducing, some species of rock lizards, whiptails, and geckos can reproduce asexually.

I think, but could easily be wrong, that sexual reproduction came about because of the Red Queen Theory. That your offspring will be able to cope with competition and predators better via gene recombination. Unfortunately, most competition and predators also reproduce via recombination (sexual reproduction).

There are probably two genders, instead of more so that the percentage of genes within the offspring from the parent are higher. This way, your kids share 50% of your genes instead of 33% or 25%. Also, how else could you have gene recombination besides with two. Cloning or asexual reproduction is actually more desirable than sexual reproduction as far as getting one's genes out there is concerned, then the offspring share 100% of their genes with the parent.

Also, wouldn't hermaphrodites actually be a third gender?

ADDED: Re guy below me... Mutations can and do occur within asexually reproducing populations.

ADDED: Re guy further below me... the female is almost always the more important sex, because who produces the babies? There are some really great examples where it is taken to the extreme... Angler Fish, Bees...

There are a lot of good genetic explanations here but I have a question. Why did it evolve that the female of the human species has a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that is cytoplasmic inherited and is passed from mother (approx. 99.9%) to offspring? The genetic code in mt DNA is different than in nuclear DNA.This can only mean that the human mother is genetically more important than the father because the proteins encoded for by mtDNA are important to all cellular respiration.

Let's answer two questions.
#1: There are two genders for the point of pro-creation.
and
#2: Genders have NOT "evolved", God made two species, man, and woman. Both were created as man and woman from the get-go. He, did not create two entities, that later "evolved" into a male species and a female species. They were, and always have been man and woman from the start of creation.

Stereotypes are prevented only by gender difference and migration.Migration like heterosexuality also potentiates species.

It makes suitable experience once you view it in the context of the time-physique wherein it befell. In one billion years, an undemanding invertebrate might desire to evolve right into a vertebrate if one minute replace got here approximately each few hundred years. in spite of everything, all of us comprehend evolution happens. there is in simple terms little doubt approximately that for all people who has taken even a quick look on the super helping data. subsequently, in case your very own biblical interpretations advise that it did not ensue, your interpretations are in simple terms incorrect. Which could be no super marvel, provided that there are 1000's of diverse Christian denominations, each of which has its very own interpretations of the Bible.

You ought to read more about our ancestors from ancient times. I mean way back!

When it was believed that angels ruled the Earth. It is just myth, and yet, sometimes myth is the only way to explain away how we changed into the separate beings we are today.

Of course, a biologist might be able to discern how the myth could have been a way of scientific explanation back then.
