i say this because alot of teams this year have a chance of making it into the playoffs. people losing to teams who they should beat easily and teams who are struggling against bad teams. just look at the Jags and the Boys or even the Saints and Miami. jags win easily against the colts twice this year but lose to the Texans twice this year. Miami beating a much better Pats team and a Saints team who beat a better cowboys team. is the league starting to even out in talent on teams or what?

there is no parity. How else can you explain the Lions?

There is a lot of parity in terms of the talent of the personnel. Most teams in the NFL have the talent to be competitive, and are missing only a few pieces. The big difference in this day and age is the front office and the coaching. A good FO brings back good players, signs good players, drafts good players....and does it all with a unified reason by working the coaches to determine what players fit well in the schemes they use. IMO, that's a good thing. In the typical NFL season, around 3/4 of the teams have a legitimate shot at the Lombardi Trophy, and that is certainly not something you can say for many other sports...

Any given Sunday...

it's why the NFL is the best sport in the US. You only play 16 games, every game is critical, and on any given weekend, there are few upsets.

Sometimes, the good teams get complacent, and sometimes the bad teams play inspired. And sometimes, it's just how the ball bounces.

With baseball, you may get lucky in 10 games, but your record in the other 152 games, will prove out how good or bad you are. In FB, you can be lucky in 2 games, which could make the difference between being 9-7 (and maybe in the postseason) or 7-9.

It's doesn't mean there aren't good and bad teams. If the playoffs started today, I'd still rather play Miami, rather than Indy.

Complacency and Contempt, That how I would Phrase it. Teams think they can can get a sure win against a team that is struggling,it's not a sure win, there never is, doesn't matter what teams are playing each other they each have to show up and play to win. The Cowboys and the Saints were actually one of the better match ups, Even as a Dallas fan, I have respect for the Saints, they play their hearts out, win or loose. No matter where you play, home or Away, No Matter what team your on, or whom ever you are a fan of, you and/or your team can't win if you/they don't show up mentally for the game, even if you may be at the Field physically.

I hear ya...it is boggling at times. Parity is attempted with the draft and so on...yet still, any team can win on any given day Yes, sometimes anomalies have to occur for this to happen-but I do not think the Saints beating us tonight was one of them. The Saints are a better coached team and outplayed us. As far as Us(Dallas) beating the Colts-that was an anomaly at the time.
My other favorite sport is MX, while a shadow of what it was 30 yrs ago, you will likley not see Ricky Carmichael or James Stewart lose to a new comer, unless they crash their brains out.

well there is just a lot of mediocre teams in the nfc. Each week the 'champs' of the nfc go to a different team. The nfl has become such a "what have you done for me lately?" league that it just changes. Plus teams start to get comfortable with their coaches and other players late into the year, it takes a while for them to buy into the new systems, so bad teams start to look good at the end of the year. Anyone can beat anyone on a given week, that's what makes the nfl so much fun.

A combination of both. Teams playing to the level of their competition equals mediocrity. Also teams seem to have more talent and matchup well against some teams which equals parity.

I think any one team in this league can beat any other team in this league, with two exceptions: The Raiders cannot beat anyone; no team can beat the Chargers, except for themselves.

i think it's just a matter of who wants it more and who makes less mistakes on that particular day. Talent wise, a lot of these guys are even, it's just who plays better as a team.

The word is mediocre, and the answer is yes to mediocrity. The NFL is rewriting the dictionary, parity used to mean equality now it means mediocrity.
