The version you are referring to is definately by a band called Love Sculpture. The band leader and lead guitarist was Dave Edmunds.

I'm not sure whether you are refering to a specific recording, or whether it's the same thing, but th eonly sabre dance I know of is by Khachaturian, in his piece Gayane.

Does it sound familiar?
Gayane was finished in 1942.

This page also has some versions,
including a more 'big band' version by Jascha Heifetz and Woody Herman,
a more Jazzy version by Lee Baxter,
a Rock n Roll Electric guitar version by Dave Edmunds,
a brass dominated version by Empire Brass,
a string dominated version by Gilles Apap.
I personally find the Dave Edmunds version very interesting;
check that out!

first off, its not a song--there are no lyrics. secondly, its been recorded many,many times since recording equipment was invented. Katchaturian composed this piece of music over 100 years ago.
