There is no 'can' Alonso IS defending his title with McLaren, whether he can do it successfully, is what you should have asked!
It wouldn't surprise me if McLaren sand bagged slightly last season, knowing that Alonso would be coming to McLaren in 2007, as soon as t became clear that neither of their 2006 drivers would compete for the championship, slowed development slightly so that they had the number 1 on their car in 2007

The short answer to your question is it's far too early to tell.
The 2007 McLaren is the first car to pass the mandatory crash test and it will be launched in early January. However, I think we should wait until there is some serious test mileage/kilometerage on it before deciding if Fernando Alonso will have a car to match his driving talents.
Still, those `Winter World Championships' (a lot of top times at test sessions) aren't always a good indication of what will happen when the season gets under way.
Those best times at test sessions are often done with an optimum set-up on the car - light fuel load, new tires/tyres and just before the session ends and there is a lot of rubber on the track. All times are unofficial, but the teams have the ability to monitor what the others are doing.

It is a bit too close to call, but I say that he does stand a very good chance. The limitations in engine revs mean that the power outputs of the engines will perhaps be partially levelled. And with Alonso's driving style (a champion's style, unlike Raikkonen's) I think that McLaren might snatch either a title or a runner-up position next year. I would love to see him fight against Kovalainen for the title either this year or in 2008.

it's just too early to predict who's gonna be world champion for next season...
Can Nanin defend his world title?
Probably yes, he's a natural driver...his sense of racing so strong, he's fast and smart to used the situation.
But he will join the new team for next season, i'm not doubting McLaren they're great constructor in F1...but Nanin and the rest of the team should match their needs each other to give the best results...it's not easy to match a lot of different thing and situation.
In other side, Kimi Raikkonen could be the highest competitor of Nanin...Well, Kimi + Ferrari...you should aware of that one =)
So, my predict is 55% for Nanin's title and 44% for Kimi
Another 1%??? Don't forget that F1 could be so unpredictable with that X factors and some of lucks...any driver could take the title home =)

He's still young. He can go on for another 10 years if he wants to. Even if he doesn't win the title with McLaren, I'm sure he'll win it with somebody else if he stays around long enough.

Lets hope so but they will have to make his car reliable. That could be a hard thing for Mclaren to do..

no.i think ferrari & kimi is unbeatable combination.kimi is always faster then his team mate.in 2005 kimi would have been champ if it wasnt for his mclaren.i feel mclaren is not consistant.all bridgstone makes it more even for mclaren but ferrari is the best.

He can win two or three races, but nothing else, I think Renault along with Ferrari will be the contenders. We can see some good surprises like BMW or Honda

i think he must work hard because mclaren is the slower f1 car but it has one specialibility,it's handling when enter the corner.and the sound of the exhaust is smoother than renault and ferrari f1 car.
