Tennis balls actually go stale. Old balls don't have the same bounce as new ones, so they're kept fresh as long as possible.

Tennis balls come in a pressurized cans becuase it preserves the ball. If the can is pressurized, then the air will not escape the ball keeping the bounce quality. For example, if you leave a tennis ball out for a long time, it will become flat. If you keep the ball pressurized then the ball keeps the same bounce and quality. Consumers would not want to buy already flat balls, hence the pressurized cans.

pressurizing purposes to keep the ball well inflated when a can is opened. inflation is important for proper bounce and impact. 3tips:
- so when you're shopping for balls, press on can (if it's plastic) to find most pressurized one. some cans will lose pressure due to long shelf life and loss in ball inflation will be evident in those cans.
- also do not open can until ready for play
- do not buy many cans if you're not plannning to use for a while
