It pains me to see/hear about so many fellow human beings suffering around the world. Sometimes, their only main fault was circumstances. For example, a Rwandan kid in the 90s didn't ask to be born into the Civil War. He just was. I feel bad that so many people have to suffer.

For the most part, our luck of being part of this society is thanks to us being born in this society. The fact that you can even read what I'm typing is a testament to that.

How do I help better the condition of those in unfortunate circumstances?

I saw this sign on a church billboard once:

PRAYER:

the most you can do
the least you can do

Prayer changes things. Even things that seem impossible to us.

It has always been that way.
Life is short and full of trouble.
God could have wiped it out any time.
God did not have to take what Adam and Eve and Satan did.
He did wipe out the violence at the flood, and Sodom and Gomorrah after.
But look how life was for Abraham and Lot among the land pirates and all they
were guilty of was being born, God could have wiped it out, but Abel, Enoch, Noah, Shem and Abraham had been real decent human being.

So for the few decent ones and all are family he has plans for salvation.

We will all have a life short and full of trouble, but when a mother has pains to give birth the pain is bad, but the baby is worth it and that is how salvation is.

I'm the same way. I'm completely compassionate and will spend hours worrying and crying about other people's misery. It's really burdening. Over the years, I've sadly had to force myself to adopt a "what will be will be" and "that's life" and "try not to think about it" kind of attitude just to keep peace with myself. It's so sad to say but unless you're going to join the peace corps and help others, you're not going to help anyone out, and you're just going to drive yourself insane contemplating the suffering of others in the world. Even if you joined a missionary or the peace corps for example, you're still always going to have that "I could do more. I'm not doing enough" feeling. Because once you help some situation, you're going to see another situation that is out of your reach. You'll probably end up becoming more depressed about it. I say do what you can and always remember to treat others well. That is really all you can do.

To be human is to suffer on a mental, physical and emotional level.
That's just part of the human condition.
But remember, no one will suffer forever.

Going to the prayer closet is the best thing you can do and hold these ppl up in prayer. I've often thought the same thing. There is so much pain and torture going on in the world. We have alot to be grateful for by being born in America.
You could also give to organizations that help ppl in peril:
voice of martyrs: Christians are being severely tortured all over the world. in some parts of the world they have to dig trenches in the jungle floor just to meet and worship. they live in constant fear of being caught. PLEASE check out their web site.

Fellowship of jews and Christians. they help jews make aliyah (SP?) to Israel from different parts of the world. they also distribute food, etc. (We should all pray for the peace of Israel)

Glad it's on your mind, brother. PRAY. PRAY. PRAY. Intercede.

Be Blessed.

The great equalizer is that we all die. It's the unequal living of our lives until our eventual death that concerns you.

But there is a more eternal concern that is beyond your focus. It's the spiritual plight and eventual spiritual death for those whose sins are not washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son. That would be a better focus of your concern for EVERYONE.

I would suggest learning to meditate and then while in meditation you may get the right answers for you . In that you are asking , something is tugging at your heart . Just roll with it , become open
spiritually and the answers will fall in line .
