Awww this question makes me sad!
Or maybe just nostalgic.
I think for me it was around the age of 12 years old that it stopped feeling so magical. I still got excited for it every year, but it wasn't that same butterflies in your stomach kind of feeling (similar to the feeling you get when you are going to Disneyland as a young child).
I think it has something to do with hormonal and emotional development, and also the way that your parents treat you. When you start getting closer to your teens, your parents kind of stop putting on the magic act for you. They don't try as hard to make everything perfect because you aren't a child anymore, and then you begin to realize that Christmas isn't magical on its own, that your parents put a lot of effort into it to make it so special. After this realization, you can either choose to give up on the christmas magic, or you can try to make it for yourself. I have tried hard to do the latter, but it still doesn't have the same magical feeling as it used to! It's still a lot of fun though!

It does still feel the same on Christmas morning. I wake up and a few seconds later, realsie it is the day and get excited. Presents! When I started working in a place that is open through the holidays took the shine off it. I do ridiculous hours in a restaurant that is catering to everybody else's celebrations and I'm too tired at the end of it all to go out and celebrate for myself. I love to hear Snoopy's Christmas and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues to make it Xmas. Those songs always make me cry with thoughts of good will but it is sad to see so little of it in real life.

I'm 40 and Christmas has always been my favorite holiday...I learned at a very young age--6, I think, that my parents had to be 'Santa's helpers' and after a long chat with my parents on why they were putting together the Barbie Townhouse that was my #1 thing on my Christmas list, as long as I said I believed, there would be something under the tree and in my stocking from Santa. K, do I still believe?--yup I sure do!! And my own kids have never busted me!! (K, and my Santa is a very loving hubby who will never let me stop believing!!)

Due to working in retail and having a 16 mo. old daughter I have to have that "holiday spunk" if you will; however, Christmas kind of died for me when I was a little girl. I found out early that there's no Santa (I was 7 or 8) and we didn't always have a Christmas tree due to having a really messed up childhood. Christmas, for years, has been painful for me and I sometimes just dread the though of it. I like the shopping, decorating, and preparations, but the actual day and all the family gatherings....not so much anymore. I hope that changes down the road for my daughter as I want her to have so much more than I ever did.....mostly joy, unconditional love, and smiles!

I don't think it ever really did stop feeling like Christmas; it definitely changed, but that one magical moment of excitement and wonder is still there. I love that feeling, so I do all kinds of things to bring it back: watching the old Christmas shows, baking and decorating cookies, going to Midnight Mass- and of course, getting up early Christmas morning after a very late evening.

Christmas has always been special to me except during combat in a war, I was 17 years old when I faced my first christmas in the Korean war and felt that I would not live through the day, except for then and the 3 Christmases in Vietnam, Christmas has always been very dear to me.

When I was 8, I saw my mother putting the presents under the tree and I then realized there was no such thing as Santa. I was crushed. I remember thinking, all the years I would wake them up and run telling them what I have under the tree. I felt so dumb, they already knew. Changed my life forever. It's okay everyone, I'm over it now. LOL Have a Merry Christmas!!

No, I knew the magic was gone one year ( I was probably 13)when I woke up early thought about getting up, then instead of getting up - I rolled over and went back to sleep. Now as and adult there is always a kind of melancholy that goes along with Christmas.
