It just doesn't seem natural to me. I have been in a long term relationship that ended almost a year ago and I have been out of the dating seen for quite some time. My friends and family are really pushing the online dating scene and I just can't get into it. They all seem like a bunch of FRECKS to me. What happened to love at first sight? The fireworks from accross the room?

Online dating is tricky, because you NEVER really know if the person you are talking to is for real. So many men advertise for dating when they are actually married, some women too. You have the people who say they look one way and are totally NOT what they described, etc....

On the flipside, however, there are real people out there just like you, who are looking for something for real. You have to correspond with them and do some background work with those people. Check their profiles, do they seem similar to someone you may have checked out on another dating site? Do they willingly exchange photos, and phone numbers? These things are all important. I have tried the online thing recently, and found most of the people to be something other than what they described.

A LOT of people are just online looking for casual sexual encounters too, it is a frustrating process trying to meet someone online. A good place to put an ad for FREE is www.craigslist.com. They never charge and you can manage who you get mail from, the other party never gets your e-mail addy unless you choose to give it to them, and most of the people on craigs I have found are genuinely looking for a relationship, not just a late night hook-up. Good Luck!

yes there are a lot of freaks. it can be fun but you either end up as online friends or meet and people seem to have very high expectations. you just cant judge how you will get on with someone until you actually meet them in person and they can seem totally different. if you want to try it try it for yourself not because people are pushing you to do it. and i agree nothing can beat the body language and fireworks across the room that you get in "real" situations.

I have several friends who have met their significant others online- many of them are now married and very happy. My boyfriend and I met on MySpace and have been dating for several months.

I was on eHarmony for many months and just looked at it as another way to meet people especially because I am at a point in my life where the bar and club scene is not for me anymore.

Try services like Match.com and eHarmony or if you are a bit bolder, try speed dating (did that too). At least if you try a dating service you are going to meet people who are in the dating scene and you won't play a guessing game as you would if you had just met them in a bar and didn't automatically know if they were looking.
