There was Powell coming to the security council with lies to start a war under false pretext.There was Rumsfeld calling some of the longest and best allies of the US old Europe for not following the US like sheep.There were the lies to countries who did join the coalition,most of them against the will of their people.The human rights scandal of Guantanamo,the secret prisons in Eastern Europe.

Because the Bush administration overplayed their hand, and used 9/11 to justify actions which to most people in most countries went far far beyond the moral rightness that 9/11 had conferred on them. In so doing they totally squandered our right to the moral high ground.

Maybe the world is strangled by fear over radical Islam. And maybe the others are wondering what's in it for them.
