Now comes the frustrating part -- checking each and every bulb in the half of the light string that is out -- (First -- check to see all the bulbs are fully pushed in, then if that does not fix the problem ... Second -- you are going to have to pull the bulbs one by one and test them to find the blown one.)

It could be one of two things: a burnt out bulb or a blown fuse.
Replace the first bulb in line that doesn't work.
If that doesn't work, then where the plug is, there are usually two fuses. They are tiny, but you can see if they're burnt out.
If neither of these fixes it, throw them out and get new ones. I've dealt with lights every Christmas and one thing I finally learned: The time you spend messing with them, costs you more than what you make an hour (it doesn't matter what profession you're in) !!!

Depending on the lights string either: your missing a bulb or on is not connecting, one is burned out (the older ones all had to be burning), there is a short in the wiring.
It may be best to toss and buy a new string.

Most christmas lights are wired directly in such a way that when one goes out or get loose in their socket, it causes the others to not to light up. Check to see if one of the bulbs is loose and if you have a volt-ohm meter check the wiring to see if it is getting continuous electricity to the ones not burning, you may have a short somewhere in the string of lights.

Most likely because one of the lights is out of place. Christmas lights are basically divided into different "groups" of lights. Whenever one light burns out, the lights can remain lit, however, whenever a bulb is loose, the circuit is broken in that certain group causing it to burn out. Make sure all the bulbs are in firmly and if the lights are still out, make sure the fuse is good.

Sometimes it works if you shake them around a bit. If it's goes on and off, a bulb might be lose or there's a problem with the wiring. If all the bulbs are in place and not blown out, it's best to get a new strand because faulty wiring is nothing to play around with.

Simply change the bulb right before the rest of the lights go out becaue it is broken.
Your lights are wired in series and should probably just be replaced.
If my suggestion soesn't work, just throw them out and buy a new string.
Happy Holidays,
Jacques

dont spend one more minute trying to figure this out...it is just to weird for me....go directly to the store and buy some new lights..in fact they are so cheap you should just plan on doing that every year to prevent wasting time wondering about these kinds of trivial things...while you are getting the lights go get a latte somewhere and smile and say Merry Christmas to everyone....and if you have a little extra time pick up some dinner for your loved ones and maybe a bunch of white roses ...they bloom so beautifully.....then get decorating the tree because you have just used up alot of your time at the stores and Christmas is coming!!!!...Peace out

There's probably a loose or missing light. Check all the bulbs.

because one or two lights has blown. find the one that doesn't work by taking a good set of lights and switching out the lights that aren't working to see which is bad. understand?
