For those who watch the Monday Night or Sunday night especially, they will show the offensive and defensive teams and have the player give their name and then where they went to college. Some say their High School.. Any idea why this might be? I can see if the school was a recent embarassment in the news but why not show school pride? Any Ideas?

OK.. I should add.. Why do they say their High School when they DID go to college.. Why DON"T they say the college name. Thought that was pretty clear in the original question.

In the case of Willie Parker of the Steelers he always says his high school because North Carolina never started him. In alot of cases im sure its just to be different and throw it waaaay back.

Because some of them weren't treated very good at the college, were never a starter, etc. It's always a personal reason. I know one night on SNF Al mentioned that some of the players say their high school because they didn't play a lot of college ball or felt they were misaligned by their coaches in college.

Players who choose not to name the college that they attended often do so because they had a bad experience in their college programs. Such players do not want to give these schools the valuable exposure that a plug on a nationally televised football game offers. As a result, they opt to name their high school, prep school, or junior college instead.

Some players don't say their college because they had bad experiences, and don't want to "advertise" that college. Some don't say it because they didn't play football in college. there are more players that play other sports and get drafted by teams in the NFL. one of them said that they did not want people to try to look them up for their college numbers and see big fat 0's all across the board

no, the school shown is their highest level of completed education. if it only shows a high school, they didn't go to college-- either went to the NFL straight out of 12th grade or took some time off and then got drafted.

in response to the addition-- how would you know whether or not they chose to list high school instead of college? if you can show me some examples i might know what you're talking about.

It shows they do have school pride. They just have more pride in their high school than college.

Could be that they didn't like their college experience. Not all kids do.
