All my grandparents have passed away by the time I was 18.
My grandmother on my father's side of the family immigrated from Hungary during World War II with her husband. She passed away before I was 6, but I remember her as loving, but not wanting to waste a thing. I found her dialect very intriguing, as it was heavily accented, but she was against teaching us the language, opting to be truly accepting of American culture. Aside from being happy around her, I also remember she took great joy in cooking for us.

Now my grandmother on mother's side of the family, I remember family outings with her where she would just beam as all of us were around. She always had either M&M's or Hershey's miniatures that we enjoyed after romping around the yard. I remember working some in her garden and helping bring fresh vegetables in the summer. My older brother lived a few years with her and grandfather after my parents and I moved out of state. I remember spending summer there after moving, and how refreshing it was to have a natural breeze blowing through the house, rather than air conditioning, which they did not have.

Being a guy I really don't remember any great bonding experience with either of them, just always feeling safe, warm and loved.

My dad's mother is alive, but unfortunately, I don't consider and see her as a grandmother. My maternal grandmother, however, meant the world to me. She was such a great and loving person. She took care of me when I had brain surgery and used to travel 10 miles by bus to take care of me, while my parents worked. When she passed away, I had a hard time accepting her death. I think it took me years to accept her passing. I miss her very much and I think of her often.

my granny means the world to me - she adopted me and if not for her- i would not be here today! She is the most giving and loving person I know!
My grandmother on my mothers side just passed away in October - this will be my first Christmas without her. I was close to her but not as close as I am to my Granny (my dad's mom). But I loved her and will miss her -- RIP Mama Cook!!

Grandmas mean unconditional love and support to me. :) I was super close to my mom's mom, she passed away six years ago on Dec 5...I still miss her alot. My boyfriend's grandma is like a third grandma to me, though (she's the sweetest lady in the whole world) and she's like a grandma to all of his friends. I think grandmas mean a lot to most people.

I'm very priviledged that my grandmother lived with my parents and I. I lived with them until I went off to college, but I was lucky to always have her around. She was born and raised in Brazil, so she doesn't speak any English, so Portuguese was actually my first language. I didn't learn English until I went to preschool, but I feel very fortunate to have her live with me, and I still come home to visit occasionally on the weekends and on college breaks. In some ways, I'm closer to my grandmother than I am to my mother or father.

I miss my grandma (mom's mom) so much. We were really close. She died almost two years ago and today is her birthday so I've been feeling pretty emotional.

my grandmother means the world to me. she is everything that makes me feel safe and loved. i can't describe how happy, needed, and loved she makes me feel. i wish that i could do more for her, but i can only do so much. that makes me feel helpless, but i try to look on the brighter side of things. i'm terribly sorry about you grandmother's passing and hope that you still talk to her in your heart. god bless you and your family.
