There are school counselors that work with students in regards to grades, college acceptance, and academic probation. There are also guidance counselors who focus on those same academic areas but work with students dealing with peer pressure or self-esteem, etc. There is less time for a guidance counselor to focus on counseling when it comes to emotional situtations because of the pressures put on schools to raise test scores.

You could, however, become a school social worker. You could work with students one-on-one and sometimes with their parents. You could start peer mediations groups, too.
