You would need to find the companies that own the characters, and ask to purchase the license from them. For example, you would contact DC Comics to purchase a licensing agreement for use of the Superman comic character; iif it's the movie character, you would also have to involve the movie company. You more than likely will have to go in with your product, and they would decide if they want their character displayed in that manner. A word of caution- a license is not a cheap thing- for example, Superman licensing for a year would probably run you around $100,000 US, since they only deal in large bulk distribution. Hope that helps.

You'd have to go to each company and apply for rights. The biggies will all say no because they want to tightly control who uses their images. But they're nice about it.

I tried to get the Red Hat licensing for some dolls I make, and was turned down because my dolls are one-of-a-kind so the Red Hatters can't control what each one looks like. I still sell the dolls but I'm careful what wording I use, and they have let me know they're ok with that. At least they did the whole thing by email so I didn't have to send them any.

Research, research, research. For each image, you are going to have to contact the copywright holder. DC or Marvel Comics for Superman. I would suggest that you specialize in comic images, that way, you can list all of the images you're interested in and pay the appropriate fees in one lump. Finally, look up the Chamber of Commerce in your area. Good luck.

I really doubt that you can do that, because the holders of the copyright already have people making them, and most likely in China.
I think you may need a copyright lawyer to work your way through the all the loop holes.
