.1--a seed won't grow if it does not have these three things: a) moisture
b) sometimes special conditions like being eaten by a bird to digest outer layers that prevent growing IE germination,
c) warm enough
.2--some seeds are sterile, or defective and won't sprout.
.3--some seeds will stay dormant or asleep in the soil until exposed to light
