just double click the song in itunes music store, and it will automatically play a 30second demo of it.
Not much else to know about ipods, other than:
BEWARE OF SCRATCHES
and
BEWARE OF SLOWLY DECREASING BATTERY LIFE
:D other than that youll be fine.
Battery life slowly decreases over time. For example, with my ipod nano generation 1. i started out getting 10-12 hours
about 3 months later i was getting 8-9hours and then presently, 13 months later, im getting 3-5 hours

When you go into the iTunes store on your computor, you can listen to 30 second demos of the song by double clicking on it. If the sample isn't good enough, you can remember the song name and check it out on other places like Amazon or the radio. I'm pretty sure that you have to pay money on iTunes to be able to download songs, though. Hope I helped!

You can listen to a 30 second demo of the song by double clicking it, or you could remember the name of a song that you liked from the radio and download that.
