Schools, Community Theaters, even dance, music, and sports lessons are helpful. Above all, at your age, you should be preparing to apply and audition for admission into a Bachelor of the Fine Arts in Acting program. Buy a couple of books, particularly on training and promoting an acting career to get started. Now is a good time to build a resume with small, local, non-union work. Since you are 16 you can audition without parental consent for most roles, and the ones you cant audition for without parental consent you cant get anyway because they are too mature. Just start small, but above all getting good training is a must, and a conservatory program (like Juilliard, NYU, SUNY-Purchase, Boston University, Rutgers University, Carnegie Mellon University, and North Carolina School of the Arts(just to name a few, and these are the best btw)) is the best thing you can do after high school. Earning a BFA looks great on a resume, along with studio classes in the city where you will be working(whether you prefer New York or Los Angeles or in between) and is a way to get attention. Dont get in a hurry to get an agent or get in the unions. Doing these prematurely can hurt your chances badly. Networking will be important as time goes by, and the most important thing other than training is being absolutely sure that this is the only thing you want to do with your life, because it can and often will break your heart. If you need any further advice, feel free to contact me.

You can do tons...as young as you are, this is a great time to explore and get a head start (if your mind doesn't change). You want to read plays, tons of them...whatever you can get your hands on...but the classics for sure. Take dance classes for grace and movement....karate....anything that teaches you how to hone your focus on the body. Sing, take voice lessons...develop this, this is VERY important in acting...even if you don't sing on stage. Take psychology courses....as many as you can, this helps a great deal with theatre and character anaylsis. Also, start going to open calls and auditions for community theatre...any type of auditions are beneficial..they teach you how to carry yourself and sell yourself. Join any clubs that focus on people and communications, like forensics..band...anything like that. Keep your creativity....paint, draw....spend each day imaging. It sounds silly, but playing is essentially what acting is.....Research colleges and figure out what you want your degree to be..... Keep a journal...keep discovering who you are, because you can't effectively act if you don't understand yourself and why you do things. And a very important thing I've learned is....embrace failure....learn to love this. You will deal with this a lot if you get serious about it. Best of luck! :)

Study dance in school. It will teach you about moving your body through space, grace, balance and many other skills essential in theatre. Do you have English/Drama classes you can take at your high school? What about after school/community courses? You might be able to take continuing education courses in the summer, or perform in a play then.
Best wishes.
