This is not as simple a question as it might seem. Certain drives has issues with certain media.

You should also edit your question and include the exact model number of your DVDR drive.

Other than that, the following may be applicable:

1) Does it recgonize ANY OTHER blank DVD media that you know of?
---- Does it recgonize ANY DVD written* media? (including a DVD movie)

2) Does CDR work perfectly fine on this same drive, with the same program?

3) What program do you use, and is the results the same with other programs?

(Win XP writing interface doesn't recgonize DVD+R Blanks)

What does it say on the front of your drive? Mine says DVD with a + sign over a - sign. If yours doesn't have that it will not recognize a +R DVD. Just like all the old CD writers, if you didn't tell it to make it usable in other drives, you couldn't make a CD and play it in you car or other CD player.
Now nearly all CD players are multi-read and will play any CD, the older(like more than one year) DVD players/recorders will not recognize DVD+R.

What types of devices record writable DVD discs?

The business, marketing and technology of writable DVDs have evolved over the years. There is now a wide variety of computer and consumer electronics (CE) devices available that record various versions and combinations of writable DVD disc formats (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM). Product capabilities as well as marketing language and terminology vary widely so be careful to check with the manufacturer for specific details.

I tried to copy and paste the chart in but it wouldn't come out right. So, click the link to see the compatibility chart. It's really confusing. Hope it helps. Good Luck.

Your DVD drive probably only accepts DVD-R there is a difference between DVD+R and DVD-R. I know its ridiculous blame the tech companies who don't agree on standards.

Are you sure you have a DVD+- R/RW drive? It may be that you have a drive just to play DVDs and not copy them.
