My fiance and I are debating something. If someone says "My vacation starts on Friday the 22nd" does that mean that they work Friday the 22nd, or not? I say that it means that they do NOT work Friday the 22nd - my fiance says it means that your vacation starts on the Friday at the END of the normal work day (so you would work Friday). Who is right?

Then why don't they say your weekend starts on Friday?

And it doesn't matter. Just a question!

No no, it's not complicated. Either he's working the 22nd, or not. He was told, your vacation starts on the 22nd. Does he work the 22nd, or not?

You're quite correct. If the vacation starts on the 22nd, then the 22nd is a vacation day.
A vacation doesn't start at the end of the a work day - it starts the first day you don't go in to work when you normally would go in to work.
I can't believe anyone could get this wrong, no offense to your hubby ;)

to be frank, you both are CORRECT. because it depends on the situation--you could be having vacation on Friday the 22nd in the morning (which means you'ld have taken leave for the whole day and don't need to work), in the afternoon (which means you work half-day and take leave on the other half-day), or in the evening (which means you leave for vacation only after a whole day of work.

so next time, please be more specific before you end up debating on simple topics :)

It means that it starts at the end of the work day on Friday the 22.
