It's not just in the giving, it is in the thought behind the gift. I always like to find just the right unexpected thing. The gift that will bring tears to everyone...usually something I know I would love to recieve myself. It has to be personal, usually has something to do with a special memory or time in that person's life.

It is better to give. To see the look of joy on someone's face after you gave them something that they really like is priceless.
But I'll be honest, it's really cool to receive something too, especially if it is unexpected!

I like getting good gifts (ones that have real thought in them because that means the person actually listens to me and knows me). But I like shopping for that perfect gift for the people I love. Sadly, my family doesn't seem to appreciate the time I spend finding those perfect gifts, so it can irritate me.
But I love buying my boyfriend gifts because he knows how much time I put into it. :)

Giving is just as good as receiving because when I see myself giving, I see how God has equipped me with what's meant as blessings to bless others, and in blessing others as God allows me to, sometimes I get to see myself helping and to be of help--is a blessing too. I love the feeling of knowing I'm blessed and that I serve God and other people and am a blessing.

I just gave my son and his fiance their birthday presents tonight and I liked the feeling I got when they reacted to the gifts.
