Honestly, it is becoming very rare for people to finish a bachelor's degree in 4 years, especially in the science and engineering fields (which would include most fields a potential medical student would pursue). My personal opinion is that it's definitely okay to take a little bit longer. Take a couple electives that you enjoy, leave a little time to have some fun or do a side job/volunteer work. These things will actually help on your application, as it will present you as a more well-rounded individual.

You can definitely wait. The application process actually starts your Junior year with preparation of committee letters. It's really hard as a science major to finish your BS in only four years anyways. Most of the classes have labs attached that can totally mess with your schedule and add a lot of additional work for only 1-2 semester hours. I'm graduating next semester with a BS in biology and the only way I could possibly graduate in four years was to take classes every summer.

Whenever you feel your application, transcripts, volunteer work, work experience is the strongest is the best time to apply to medical schools. I have friends who graduated with their BS but are waiting an extra year so they can get more work experience to pad up their application. Also it's nice to take a year off from school to recuperate to prevent burn out.

There are several answers to this. First you need to go to college and then decide whether you are ready or not. You will be a different person than you are today. Many people do not finish a four year degree in four years. Second there is no guarantee that you will be accepted to Medical school on the first try. Going on to a Masters program whould never be a bad thing.

definatly!! You can always take more classes than you have too! Just take another Major, or another Minor, and go until you get your GPA up, or feel more comfortable applying!!

Good Luck
