LOL... i feel your pain. I remember my father used to bring all the decorations from storage (basement) and let my mother decorate the house by herself.. Usually when my brother and I was at school. I took over the role when I was approxately 12 and have been decorating ever since (I'm a man and am 25 now) I don't live with my parents (they are divorced) however, I deocrate their christmas trees using very old christmas tree trimmings for them since my dad is very old and my mom does not like to touch the tree now.
I extactly remember those tacky fake Canadian Pine christmas tree from the 80's LOL.... and it eventally got replaced for first time and it got destoryed by the melting mashmallows and had to replace it again for 2nd time and I brought another 8 foot for myself.
My yonger brother takes no interest in it since his teens and I'm sure when he gets married and have children of his own which will not be long now (approxiamtely 3 years from now) and I bet his wife will be the main decorator of the house and My brother will just carry the boxes out of storage LOL....

I think it is a woman thing, even though when my parents were still alive I have to give Daddy credit, he would help me with the lights, garland, and the topper but after that it was all me; and to tell you the truth, I don't mind decorating the tree by myself, even though this year, I had to buy a new one and it is 4 ft tall and thank God somebody invented pre-lit trees because that was the only part of decorating and undecorating that I disliked the most even though I couldn't not have lights on the tree.
Too bad that your family doesn't want to help maybe next year you should tell them that the only way there's gonna be a tree is if someone else does it that you are taking a vacation from it that year. Merry Christmas.

I grew up with three sisters. We thought of it as a privilege. I still use many of the ornaments today that I hung on the tree as a child. My favorite one is a ceramic tree with a mouse at the top dated 1978, my best friend at the time handmade it for me.( good memories) The ornaments all have a history, even my kids ornaments, this makes it more meaningful for them. I don't expect my husband to participate, his family was not enthusiastic about Christmas when he was young. He does love to watch the kids though. This year he vacuumed and did the dishes while we did the tree, I am quite happy with that myself.
My kids put their ornaments on and I do the rest...I prefer it that way. I like my bows and tinsel just so.
My mother used to bake the Christmas cookies( sugar ones you frost and decorate) while we put up the decorations. We couldn't eat any or frost one until the tree was done. Might be an idea to try...next year.

lol well, going back into history (german, to be precise), it's usually the mother who decorates the Christmas tree while the father entertains the kids. afterwards, the kids come out and see the presents and tree and everything. they didn't used to be allowed to see the tree until it was finished, so the mother would bring it in when they weren't in the same room.
HOWEVER, i don't know if you're looking for history. lol it's not really a matter of manners, but if they don't decorate it also, then they obviously don't appreciate the experience as much as you do. i never really liked Christmas trees because they're such a huge mess and everything, but the past few years I've realized I enjoy calling friends over to help me. it's fun

I'm the only person who decorates in the family, I actually love decorating both the interior and exterior of the house, no one else seems to care in my family.
They seem more concerned with having Christmas zip by quickly instead of enjoying the Holiday Season.
I guess for some grown ups, the magic of Christmas goes away when the kids are all grown up.

The same with me! My son didn't help at all. My daughter helped for all of 10 minutes and I had to finish it up. Maybe next year I'll let the decorations sit there for a week and if nothing happens, back to the garage they go and we'll have a bare tree!!

I think my husband of 36 years helped the first year or two of our marriage. My daughters helped because we would get all excited, put on the movie White Christmas and then decorate. But, my husband never participated - though he truly was a great dad and husband in other respects.

Yup, that sounds about right. I never thought about it before. On tv and in movies they always show people having tree decorating parties where there are a ton of people helping out and I always thought that's the way most people did it. Now that I think of it I guess this is the reality.

My familyused to do the whole thing togeather. was nice family bonding time. Just threaten to not have a tree next year unless someone helps. lol

Make definite the lighting fixtures paintings earlier than hanging them at the tree. Or larger but plug them in in order that they're on while you're adorning so you'll be able to inform wherein they're going and the way they're going to seem.
