i thought it was hillarious how ridiculous he let people make themselves look. he didn't make anyone do or say anything they wouldn't normally do or say, just gave them an outlet. i fall into laughing fits when i see how the sue frenzy hit too. it really makes the most fun of american people and how ignorant americans can be.

As much as people like to laugh at this movie, it actually does make some really intellectual points. Some people laugh so hard at what Borat says that they miss the really important parts of the movie (that is, how people respond). A lot of times Americans like to think that racism is "covert" in this nation and that it's kind of going away. Borat proved that it isn't and forces people to realize it. Anybody who says this movie promotes hate or that Borat himself is making fun of different cultures has COMPLETELY missed the point.

I don't mean to spoil the movie if you haven't seen it, but a few key scenes to look out for include the rodeo scene, the scene where Borat tries to buy a car, and the scene where Borat joins some fraternity brothers.

And if you see it in the theater you have an additional advantage. Again, I don't mean to spoil it, but there's a scene where Borat and another man wrestle naked. This scene goes on for like two minutes, and it ain't pretty. But when this is happening, stop and take a look around. Everybody in the theater will be acting so grossed out and so disgusted, but would these people be acting the same way if the scene involved two girls?

And above all else... It's funny.

Funny! Sasha Baron Cohen is the new Andy Kauffman! There was only one moment in one scene that I wish he didn't have in there (at the dinner table... you know, it wasn't nice) - but other than that one moment, there was nothing cheap-shot about it, just clever exposure of some interesting and sort of scary things about people. As for Kazahkstan, I don't think it was insulting, really - the people in that village were Kazahk actors anyway.

[ADDED] I can't say for sure, but I believe that a lot of people who label this movie as based on bigotry and hurting others have not seen the movie, but instead are parrotting what they think is high-brow take on it. If they actually saw it, and still felt that way, I would say they are looking for fault in the wrong places.

It's a little of both. It was very cruel the way he did the movie. The people he exploited had no idea they would be in a movie. It's funny because it's not scripted at all. He went with a skit and followed it through no matter what happened. All add lib. He may be in a lot of trouble because of it. Law suits and all.

Whether anyone deems the movie funny will depend on that person's sense of humour. I myself cannot laugh when one person ridicules another. It is a very cheap device.

He did a good job on both, and the people who sue over misrepresentation should ask themselves why they had those opinions to begin with.

It's deep because it wrenches your gut. Cohen knew what he was doing. His "Throw the Jew Down the Well" bit disturbed me.

He's an Orthodox Jew educated at Oxford.

He knows exactly what he's doing.
