I have a step daughter that doesn't have access to a computer. I want to get her a device that's wireless and mobile where she can I M me from anywhere off of a wireless (like a cell phone tower) connection. Are there any devices out there that can do this? I would prefer a device that isn't a cell phone and not too expensive and can be used with MSN messenger... if not MSN, I can set her up on another account.

I have seen devices that allow Internet access without it being a cell phone, however she would have to be in an area that offered wireless Internet to use it, so its pretty much useless unless shes always going to be in an area that has wireless Internet. Most cell phones can IM to programs such as MSN, AIM and Yahoo. However, you will be charged for a text message for each IM. I have an expensive phone now that has IM capabilities, but the phone I had before that which was a simple Motorola and I could also use instant messenger. Both phones had all three instant messenger programs. Also, most cell phone plans give you the option for unlimited texting for like $10 per month if she will be using it a lot. Shop around, look at different phones and if you see something you like or thats in your price range just ask the sales people if you can access instant messenger with it. Cell phones and plans are pretty reasonable these days. If you have a cellphone maybe you could add a phone and get her on your plan for cheap.
