I live in New Hampshire. I think I want to move to a southern state, like missori, or arkansas or alabama. Somewhere where the cost of living is realy low. I'm going to be an airplane mechanic, so I need to be near an airport. Whats it like living down south? I think I'll fit right in, except for the new england accent... Any good places to live down there, suggestions?

Well, I live in Alabama. You couldnt pay me to live anywhere else. If you wanna be an airplane mechanic. We have 2 large airports in Mobile. Mobile Regional, and Brookly Field (which has the longest runway in the country, it is an alternate landing spot for the space shuttle.) The city is always getting new contracts for aircraft, and if I remember correctly, they will soon have over 1000 job opening at a new facility on Brookly Field. I have mechanic friends that work at brookly. They seem to like it there. As for the cost of living, prices are going up here. I dont know what you want to spend for housing. I can tell you where not to go. Or if you have a median price you are wanting to spend. I can give you areas you can afford a home in. Also, Mobile is a wonderful city. and we are close to the coast and we have BEAUTIFUL beaches. Look into it.

I currently live in Memphis, TN (I'm from Seattle, WA) and we have a modestly sized airport here (and Fedex headquarters are here...so they have their own airport as well). The cost of living is very reasonable (average middle class house costs about $130,000). If you like the nightlife, we have Beale Street (small version of Bourbon Street) and the bars are open until 4am (only on Beale Street though). The con's of living here are the humidity, crime rate is on the high side and the city itself is small, but it's expansive (meaning it can take a while to get so some places). Recommended living area's are Midtown, Downtown, Germantown, Bartlett and Collierville (Midtown and Downtown are my favorite - they have an eccentric feel to them). Any other area's are probably not very trustworthy.
Nashville is 3 hours away...and has a huge airport. I personally would prefer to live in Nashville as I think it's a friendlier and safer city. I believe the cost of living isn't really that much higher then Memphis.
My husband has family in Alabama and I understand Huntsville is a nice city with an airport. It's a small city, but Northern Alabama is a relatively nice area. Birmingham isn't bad either as far as cities goes.
I would stay away from Atlanta...I have never met someone from the North that liked living there. Missouri is not exactly what I would call a "southern state" so if you moved there, you probably wouldn't be experiencing the south if that is what you are looking for. But my husband went to school there...it's not a bad state. It does have some tough winters though (I'm sure you are used to that).
Now my biggest complaints about the South. It's great if you are conservative and religious (this is the bible belt after all) but I don't feel like I can openly share my personal views because I'm not exactly religious or conservative. There is a deep rooted racial tension here...it's not openly discussed, but it's there. And the worst thing about living in the south: the gosh darn humidity. You won't believe it until you feel it. Literally sucks the life out of you. Get used to a summer running from air conditioner to air conditioner lol. Every summer I ask myself why I live here!
But seriously, the south isn't a bad place to live. It does take some getting used to though lol.

There are some very nice areas that are not far from the Kansas City International Airport and are great to live in. There is also quite a bit of aviation maintenance at MCI. American and Midwest Airlines both have a lot of maintenance going on there.

Charlotte NC would be a good choice - there is a big airport there - there is also a big airport in Atlanta - but Atlanta has a lot of freaks and te cost of living is a little higher in Atlanta - plus Charlotte is only about5-6 hrs away from Myrtle Beach
