what do you do in a "film studies" or "film and media studies" class in college? do students there learn how to make films or just learn about the history of films?

In the film studies course I took, which was called "intro to film studies" we didn' learn anything about making films. We really didn't even learn much about the history of films. The main focus of the class was analyzing film sequences-narratives, sound, editing, characters, setting, film language, etc. But if you are interested in making films, this is a very good course to start you off.
