Well, bombing the heck out of a country and then not knowing what to do isn't encouraging. If we had walked out and said tough noogies, we might have been alright, seen as tough and uncompromising and 'see what happens when you mess with us', but trying to establish a democracy in a country with no real knowledge of what one is, and one that has no background in wanting such a thing was a visit to fairytale land. Same in Afganistan, we can't do a darn thing there and Osama is still out there, a definite blow to our prestige.
The real damage, occured even before 9/11 and Iraq, it occurred when Bush acted so ignorant about foreign affairs. Fortunately, when he leaves office, unless we elect another light weight, our prestige on the world stage should, hopefully, begin to be restored.

"No it is diminished by never ending defeatism, propaganda, and anti-Americanism from within our own borders." Let me guess you watch Fox news am I right?
I quote this only because if anything this has helped us in the geopolitical scene. Because the rest of the world understands that the great American nation is being run by war-profiteers and fascists, who have depeleted our treasury, our spirit and our armed forces for personal gain.
Some people are paying attention and not buying into the incredibly intelligent but completely fictional marketing scheme of this administration.
Yes our standing has been diminished in every way. We currently do not have the resources that we once did, the dollar is down and we have lost a lot of respect. This years election is a step in the right direction and hopefully we can elect someone in 2008 who deserves and is qualified to hold the HIGHEST position in this country.
“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”
Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights.” ~Jefferson

yes, but not in the way you'd think. The enormous amount of money we've spent is causing the value of the U.S. dollar to fall due to excessive debt. When China begins to sell their American currency, the value will decline rapidly, causing a recession and a stock market crash

I think that George Bush running around yapping his yap off all the time calling everyone else a "terrorist" is getting a lot of people in a lot of countries really pissed off to the point where they want to come over here and shut his face.
He has done more to create terrorist threats against the US than just about anyone else, including Osama bin Laden.

Yes Bush has undone years of hard won diplomatic efforts in the Mideast and beyond with his neoconservative agenda.
