I used to work for Wal Mart & I thin they've gone down hill a bit sense Sam Walton (founder) died.
But they have improved as far as promotions for women.
In my day, if a man was hired as a cashier, it would be only a month or so till he was promoted to Cashier manager. Very few women were ever given the position. They seem to be fair about that now.

I am not asking which place I should work for.
I just hear so many complainst against Wal Mart & am curious if Target is worse.
This kind of job should be temporary or supplimental for most people, unless you want to go up the ladder into management.

How do you know these things happen as often as you think they do at Wal Mart?
And what makes you think they don't happen at Target?
Maybe you just heard about the claims against WalMart because it is a bigger businessm which draws more critics.
I worked for WalMart for 7 years.
They always were careful to keep payroll down but not necesarily "under-staffed." Remember, the more they have to pay people, the harder it is to keep prices down.
I have never experienced anyone deleting my overtime hours. I was never bullied into working overtime without pay.
And, like most companies, I would pay for a portion of my health insurance cost out of my paycheck.
Over all, my experience with Wal Mart was a very good one.
