I used to work for Wal Mart & I thin they've gone down hill a bit sense Sam Walton (founder) died.
But they have improved as far as promotions for women.
In my day, if a man was hired as a cashier, it would be only a month or so till he was promoted to Cashier manager. Very few women were ever given the position. They seem to be fair about that now.

I am not asking which place I should work for.

I just hear so many complainst against Wal Mart & am curious if Target is worse.

This kind of job should be temporary or supplimental for most people, unless you want to go up the ladder into management.

How do you know these things happen as often as you think they do at Wal Mart?
And what makes you think they don't happen at Target?
Maybe you just heard about the claims against WalMart because it is a bigger businessm which draws more critics.

I worked for WalMart for 7 years.

They always were careful to keep payroll down but not necesarily "under-staffed." Remember, the more they have to pay people, the harder it is to keep prices down.

I have never experienced anyone deleting my overtime hours. I was never bullied into working overtime without pay.
And, like most companies, I would pay for a portion of my health insurance cost out of my paycheck.
Over all, my experience with Wal Mart was a very good one.

I am not going to support Walmart, but in the same token, I cannot let people continue to spread lies without saying something. So you know, more women than men are supervisors for the company. Fact. Every employee gets paid what they earn. Fact. Even though the wages are not the greatest, they are competitive with that particular job skill. If you need to see more of the truth about walmart, then visit www.walmartfacts.com. All these other sites, including the videos that were released about Walmart focus on lies and other detrimental instruments to give the company a bad name. And if you look deeper, you will find that the organizations are usually backed by the UFCW, union, which has shown nothing but negative propoganda against Walmart ever since Walmart ASSOCIATES have chosen they don't need a union. Yes that is right. Not the managers, but the associates. In fact, the managers legally have no say in it at all. And then after the associates chose not to have union representation, the union made moves to start bashing the company's integrity. And if you want to know why it is Walmart that is receiving all of the negative publicity and not Target, that is simple. Walmart has over 1,000,000 employees, and Target doesn't even come close. 1,000,000 employees each paying union dues adds up to quite a lot of money for union reps. Don't believe everything you hear on the news. This may come as a shock, but there are people out there that lie to others. By the way, Walmart is still a better company to work for. It allows more free reign with the expression of ideas, and creativity.

I've heard horrible things about Walmart, my family refuses to shop there any more because of them. Target, on the other hand, I've never heard anything bad about, so I'd suggest Target. WalMart managers make sure that they are under-staffed at all times on purpose, and they go into employee records and delete overtime hours that people actually worked, they bully people into working overtime without pay, etc. I've never heard of Target doing anything of the sort, but I saw a documentary on Walmart saying they did all those things, and citing former employees. Also, Walmart employees don't get health care unless they agree to have pay docked by 3/4, or so my dad says.

i know there is some organization, (women and wallmart, is the name i think), thats sueing the giant for women rights to faster promotion and overall equallity. mostly i know about target and they have to gotten a lot worse. work environment is very high school ego stroking. pay is gonna be bad as expected something like $6.5 starting. employee functions ,especially the x-mas one, are'nt even worth goning to. target used to throw a big celebration for a hard years work bring in some good food, lots of drink. now your lucky if its name brand soda. also you can forget about managment listening to your need for help. team leaders are left to work all by them selfs.they should just take down the lead part cause you are the team.

also they offer only 10% off to their employees. i dont think the fact that they are a big company gives them an excuse. best buy still offers 5% over cost. id say the two corporations floor jobs should be very temporary. and a good learning experience into corporate mindset.
