Aim it at 10-16 year old girls and you've got a platinum album. A "megahit" is not necessarily a good song.

I guess it's a "Megahit" if it sells a lot - of course that has nothing to do with it actually being a good song....

If it's catchy and unusual plus a lot of publicity, it'll be a megahit.

megahit songs arent always the best written songs, its just how the song affects the fans.

Catchy hooks and riffs with lryics people can sing along too and understand what they are singing. To make music that has something for everyone but to let those people who listen to it interpet the meaning of the song for themselfs. Like STP..they had awesome songs with catchy hooks and riffs. Sorta poppy rock..but they are an awesome band.

Money to pay the radio stations to play your song and the dj to drill into all those stupid impressionable minds how great the song is. And a sickly sweet tune of course.

A song that's easily marketed to fans of all or most genres of music. One that "kids from 1 to 92" would get stuck in their head and/or appreciate.

Marketing and sweet, sweet payola.

Neither of these things makes a song good of course, but it gets the song airtime and people eat up things that are popular.
