Obtain catalog's from colleges in your area listing requirements for RN. Compare the programs if you have more than one. If there are differences in the programs, learn what those differences are and take the course that is the most difficult. i.e., Chemistry for Nurses vs Chemistry I. Rationale is this-- if you apply to both programs and you achieve the more academically difficult, you will be ready, and won't have to repeat a course.
If the program is a degree-- you will have credits that the state requires for graduation-- English, government, math-- then the degree will require sciences-- biology, anatomy and physiology and so forth. Begin the state required courses and the electives -- get them out of the way. Most nursing programs have waiting lists-- consult with a counselor at the school programs for requirements and approximate waiting time-- get as many courses out of the way prior to actual nursing coursework and clinicals as you can.
Make sure your husband supports your efforts-- you may be surprised how many husbands don't like their wives becoming more independant and critical thinkers-- it follows that we take those same qualities and apply them to our lives. --
You are embarking on a long and difficult journey that is very worthwhile. I wish you much luck.
