I imagine this person doesn't want to come home because then he/she has to deal with people who think it's acceptable to 'make him feel bad' in order to get their way. Treat 'em with love and respect and maybe he/she will actually WANT to come home.

Why would you do that? You sound like my mother because I'm going to be going overseas to spend christmas with my fiance rather than staying home and watching her be all depressed because of the holidays. Maybe if you wouldn't make them feel bad for not coming home they'd be more willing to come home in the first place.

Don't try to make them feel bad. Just let them know that you will miss them very very much and then maybe they will come home on their own. If they come home because they feel guilty no one will have a good time.

wow, how immature. they may not be able to afford it, may not be able to take off work, may not be able to afford to take off work and very well could be feeling really bad about it already. Have a clue what it's like being alone and away from family on Christmas? Grow up. It's a part of being an adult, making adult decisions and surviving life as best you can. They have to do what they must and you have to accept it. How cruel you can be is unreal. I feel more sorry for you than them.

Did you ever think of going to see him for Christmas.
May be he can't afford to come home.
If he's marred and has kids of his own, may be he just want his own Christmas with his kids.
may be you need to think of others and not just your self's.
May be you already did make him feel bad that's why he is not coming ? TH-AAA!

There is a movie that I saw (Undercover Christmas with Tyne Daily) she played a mother who really wanted her son home for the holiday and he always took assignments so he wouldn't have to go home, so she called him and told him that his father had had a heart attack. I know it seems cheesey but see if you can get your mom to call and tell your brother a white lie to get your brother home for christmas (he may be sore for a little while but if he had your dad can just start talking maybe they will mend the fences that are torn down between them.

WHY? Why not just let them celebrate the holidays that they want to celebrate (especially if they are adults and living independently).
This is supposed to be a season of Joy -- and not a season to make another miserable ... unhappy ...

Why would you want to do that? Christmas is about "good will toward all men", not " plot your vengeance and carry it out with bloodlust in your eye".
Seriously, though- we have enough evil s^%$ in this world- don't add to it with petty torments.

Maybe you're the reason they don't want to come home if that's the way you are.
