I don't think that teens really hate their parents. I think that what happens is that the parent remembers what it was like to be a teen and then wants to steer them in the right direction. The teen doesn't understand what is going on and is beginning to develop opinions and emotions and feels like the parent doesn't understand.
My mother and I seemed to be generations apart and now that I'm 24, I understand where she was coming from and wonder what I could have done differently.

Teens don't really hate their parents.
The adolescent mind is affected by physical growth and development, combined with hormonal changes, all of which is initially unfamiliar and awkward.
At the same time, the parents see their darling baby becoming an adult, and they have a hard time accepting that their young'un will soon leave the nest.
The parents have "been there, done that" and, knowing how dangerous the world is, want to protect their offspring as long as they can.
On the other hand, Nature dictates that the child's job is to rebel, cut the apron strings, test the waters, and see what they can get away with.
It's all part of growing up and becoming independent.
But, why is this question in the music forum?
Is it because teenagers like to shock their parents by listening to music they KNOW their folks will NOT approve of?
Hey, when I was growing up, Rock 'n' Roll was the Devil's music, but I loved it and couldn't get enough of it.
Man, I could tell you some stories about the problems I caused my parents when I was practicing on the piano!
I could only listen to Rock 'n' Roll on the radio when my folks were out of the house, and that's how I learned to sing, by imitating what I heard on the radio.

Some of us are very emotional and exagerate what are parents don't let us do and think all the possible bad thoughts about them. Yet some people actually have a good reason or two why they shouldn't like there parents, and there are some of us (teens like me) who love there parents. So I don't think all teens hate there parents because....... I'm a teen and I love them so much. Maybe you should talk to your parents about it andyou can compromise some rules and tell them how you feel... or it might just get better over time. *I hope I helped!!!

Most teenagers don't really hate their parents, but they act like they do for the same reason 2-year olds scream "no" at the top of their lungs. Both are attached to their parents, very attached, and are trying to create space and distance to become more independent. In the process, both overdo their efforts to break away. A caveat, however, is that 2-year olds can't drive, but teens can, and they can also take drugs, have babies, run away, contract STDs, etc., so the battles are bigger than the battles with 2-year olds, who can be picked up, if necessary, and put somewhere else while both parties cool down. Not so with teenagers.

Usually the teenage years are the years where most teens want more freedom and usually get mad and upset. It can b the parents, but it depends on who it is. Well, some teens get really mad at their parents because they won't let him/her go to a party at night. You shouldn't get mad and upset, but u will, cuz u think that it's unfair and that "everyone" is going. His/ her parents is just tryin to protect them if something bad were to happen.
My teacher's daughter wanted to go to King's Island after the prom at nite, and thats a long drive. Well, my teacher's daughter really wanted to go, but her mom kept saying no,because it's late and something bad might happen like gettin into a car accident. Well, her daughter ended up not goin, but guess what happened when the students from prom came back? they got into a car accident, but everyone was ok. So c? You may alwaysa ask yourself y parents give u certain limits, and it's because they care about you and don't want u to get into any trouble. Besides, they're older than us teens and are wiser w/ more experience. You may just say "You don't knw how i feel!" well, they probably do. So make the rite choice and listen to ur parents. :)

Unless theyre being abused its usually because theyre spoiled little idiots who never seem to understand how lucky they are to have a home, food anytime, clothes and dont appreciate or even have a clue how many lives are lost so that they may live free or even realize what freedom is. They can tell you all about American Idol and Real World and recite every word to the latest filthy degrading rap song though. You know...the important stuff.

They don't. They are just changing and trying to figure out who they are. Parents find it hard to help teens through this rough time because they are changing so fast that what used to work doesn't help now and they often end up alienating their children.

i don't know. but i don't hate mine. I think that they think that their parents are being to hard on them, or over protective, or the teens think that they're old enough to take care of them selves and the parents are still taking care of them or something like that.
