It used to be that only buisness people had cell phones, then adults, college, high school, middle school, and now ten year olds.

On one hand, I was disgusted when I first saw that commercial for cell phones for kids from Disney, but the more I think about it I think everyone should have a phone in case of an emergency. I remember on 9/11, the high school nearby had a lock-down and the parents didn't know what happened to their kids and if they were alright. Cell phones are necessary in that type of situation. On a smaller scale also, when a student is sick, sometimes the school won't send the student home, so they can use the cell phone to call a parent. I don't approve of students sneaking in and out of bathrooms to talk to people, but sometimes its necessary! Also, talk about kids getting younger and younger: don't you think kids go out by themselves more often nowadays? How can their parents contact them? Of course this will only work if the child uses the phone responsibly--ie actually answers the phone/voicemails! I think cell phones would be less annoying in general if people just used them for these types of emergencies. Although there is no need to be talking to someone 24/7, I believe everyone should have a cell phone on them 24/7!

Society's needs are changing. 15 years ago my mom would have taken me to baseball practice, stayed there the whole time, and taken me home. Now that we as parents are constantly overworked and multitasking we have to depend more on other people to take care of our children...you carpool, you have baby sitters, etc. I have a son that's 11 and he doesn't need a cell phone. I'm with him all the time and am at all his activities. That can be a rarity. Also, a 10 year old now can be more mature than a 10 year old 20 years ago. Kids are maturing faster and as a result, expect things. Me personally...i'd have a gps microchip implanted in my kids before I'd give them a cell phone. It will be cheaper in the long run and you'd always KNOW where your kids were...it seems extreme..but not any more extreme than giving a 10 year old a cell phone with a bill they can run into oblivion.

I think that you mean "why do you think that cell phones are slowly becoming AVAILABLE".
Cell phone use is becoming more pervasive because phone companies are making it more affordable. Cell phones used to be quite expensive items. With the manufacturing costs going down, cell sites becoming more pervasive, and families wishing to stay in touch, use is increasing.

yah its a trend thats getting younger and younger but i dont blame them.Kids now have to contact with friends and a handphone has many uses like taking photos and uploading them to the computer and also it can store music to play when you are bored. Its a very personal thing and its somehow like a wallet, you cant go anywhere without it.

Susceptible?
well yas..
"younger kids" like to destroy them when they get their hands on them.
So lock up your cell phones.
Younger kids are dangerous...
