Virgin Mobile - no contract and excellent service. I pay $20 every 90 days (you can buy phone cards at Walgreen's) and my unused minutes roll over as long as I pay on time. Wonderful phone to keep for emergencies in your car. The Oyster phone is only $20 now - it has very good sound. The down side with this phone is that the battery has to be recharged fairly often - if you don't use it that often, it doesn't matter.

Virgin Mobile has a phone called the Oyster for $19.99 right now in most markets. Also Cingular's Go Phones have an inexpensive phone that goes on special every once in a while. Check with your local Radio Shack. They generally have options unlike your other retailers who know absolutely nothing about the phones.
