I suck at multiple choice, standardized tests. I need to pass the NCLEX-RN test and some of my friends are just good at taking multiple choice tests and have passed w/o even studying very hard. Anyone that also have such abilities...what is the key?

I am horrible at test taking also. For some reason, when I am mad, I tend to do better, not only on tests, but even interviews. A good sugestion I would have, would be to relax. Don't go into the test saying that you are going to fail, because of that, you will fail. Try telling yourself "I am going to Ace this test, hands down". It works for me. I just wouldn't recommend being mad though.

1) Be sure to note how it will be graded. Some are scored with "score = right minus wrong". If that's the case you're usually better off not answering questions for which you're not sure.

2) Go through the test quickly, answering those about which you're sure. Your subconcious will be working on the others. Make another pass and you'll probably get a few more. Keep doing it all the way through until you've isolated the questions for which you're not sure.

3) Now, this depends on how the test is to be graded. If there's no more penalty for a wrong answer than an ommitted answer - take your best guess. Otherwise, skip it and leave it blank.

Of course the best thing is to take good notes and study them - perhaps with a friend asking questions.

Good luck.

Each time i take a test,it's the MCQs that saves me(helped me pass). In fact, our teachers always say "if you guys pay attention in class,it's easy to score most of the marks in the MCQ part."It's true really.Maybe you haven't paid a lot of attention to the teacher. Most of the time, they give us test tips and even pass papers to practice our skills in answering MC or standardised tests.Remember,MCQs are designed to "look tricky" but they aren't as difficult as they seem. Most of the time,if you read the questions carefully, mistakes can be avoid. Also,if your teachers do not distribute pass paper(pass exam papers) to you,you can buy them in book shops.Good preparation is crucial too!I hope my advice is helpful.^_^
