Rosy Boas make excellent starter snakes. They don't get large like Dumerils or Red Tails. They are also one of only two species of Boas found in North America (the other being Rubber Boas). I suggest a captive born over wild caught animals. It can be easy to find them in areas of Southern California but there are some restrictions on collecting them their, you need a fishing license and you can not sell them and need a permit to breed them. I love Rosies. I think they make great snakes and have great attitudes when handle frequently.

I worked at a pet store for several years, and we got all our snakes in as babies. Every Rosey we got would start out great, but eventually turned agressive, even with my handleing them every day. My 3 year old son would be able to hold htem at first, but after a while, they turned mean! I really don't remember much about that particular snake, that is just what I remember about them.

Well personally i started out with a redtail and then i found out how huge it gets lol but i still love her but ya i think a rosey would be a great new snake to learn on. if your looking for a easy one to get bigger go with redtails but roseys are well temeperd and easy to care for with the right equpiment. make sure you can get the tank size and everything for her first to make her happy and then get the rosey tho makes life on you and her alot easier

actual, the terrific first time snake may well be a cornsnake, yet I pay attention the rosy boas are incredibly docile too. i'm uncertain on the subject of the hognose, yet why not pass to the puppy keep and enable them to have you ever take care of each type to work out what you like terrific. stable success! right this is a few information on the hognose, which doesnt sound too appealing, enormously the foul musk or fecal count, yuck!: while threatened, hognose snakes will flatten their necks and raise their heads off the floor, not in assessment to a cobra, and hiss. they could at times feign strikes, yet at the instant are not apt to chew. This behaviour has earned them countless nicknames, alongside with "puff adder", "blowing adder", "flathead", "spreadhead", "spreading adder" or "hissing adder". be conscious, although, the nickname "puff adder" is basically a nickname, and is not scientifically ideal. there's a quite venomous viper from Africa stated as the puff adder, Bitis arietans. If this probability demonstrate would not paintings to deter a might-be predator, hognose snakes will oftentimes roll onto their decrease back and play ineffective, going as far as to emit a undesirable musk and fecal count from their cloaca and permit their tongue carry out of their mouth, at times accompanied with the help of small droplets of blood. in the event that they are rolled upright mutually as in this state, they're going to oftentimes roll decrease back as though insisting they are actual ineffective. that's been reported that the snake, mutually as performing to be ineffective, will nevertheless watch the animal that brought about the dying pose. The snake will 'resurrect' quicker if the prospect is finding removed from it than if the prospect is finding on the snake.[a million]
