I agree with the first Answerer. Are you talking about ghosts or ghost stories?

There are recorded sightings in Britain of the ghost of what might be Queen Boudicca rising out of a Lincolnshire mist in her chariot; a Saxon horseman galloping wildly in the southern countryside, and Roman soldiers in, I think, York, among others. I think we would see the Egyptian ghosts in Egypt, and Greek ones in Greece, etc, unless they had travelled and/or died here.

In Victorian times, there was a huge surge of interest in the occult, with table rappings, seances, demonstrations of Mesmerism and hypnotism et al gaining popularity. We tend to associate ghost stories with those times; some of the very best and scariest were written by M R James. Here's a little information:

I have also heard it said that whatever it is that causes the manifestation of ghosts tends to lose power with the passage of time, so older ghosts fade leaving the more recent, stronger ones. (I tend to believe more in the theory of "replay", which is when someone on the right wavelength can see actions of the past played out. But I'm a sceptic...)

I think it's a matter of what we are exposed to in the West, especially in the U.S. In the U.K. they have ghost sightings of characters from every period of Britain's history, including Romans. I am sure that if we knew more about ghost stories in Egypt and Greece (I for one do not hear many stories about day to day life and culture in these countries) we would know all about their ghosts. There is a long history of ghost stories in China as well, and Classical Greek mythology is full of ghosts.

once you have mastered sufficient English language and grammar to right ask your question, then i'm particular that persons would be extra susceptible to help you. Edit: Moni - that is not that the question isn't able to be understood. the topic is this person is soliciting for help on her English homework and can't additionally be afflicted to right spell or punctuate her question and information. IM communicate is starting to be extra pervasive in formalized papers. this may well be a nerve-racking vogue because of the fact it skill that our pupils at the instant are not grasping the thought-approximately a difference between casual and formal speech. you won't communicate to your mom the comparable way you may communicate to your suitable pal, could you? This person is soliciting for help on a appropriate task...subsequently she desires to ask for it right. If she had IM this question to the persons on her pal record in precisely the comparable way than it may be suitable. whether, that is not her pal record, its a public communicate board...IM communicate is unacceptable.

Maybe it's because all the people from the Victorian era lived miserable, contained lives, and just didn't feel that they had had enough fun to move on.
