I would definately put in information about Iraq first off. I would also add about G. W. Bush, and how much of an idiot he is. I would put in weird little facts on the cost of daily living, such as, the price of an average loaf of bread, gallon of gas, house, the weather, etc.... I would gather pictures of the great things we have to offer. Like where I live, we have Cedar Point, which is like the greatest amusement park. I would also add many photographs of not only the many different cultures of people, but of the animals and vegetation. If I were alive 1000 years from now, I would like to be able to compare what life was like 1000 years ago.

You could put information about the world and stuff, but honestly, i think the most interesting information to those people would just be about you. I think in 1000 years the people will know all the history that has happen provided that we don't go through a Dark Age or something. What would be more interesting to them would be to read about an actual person who lived in that time-an average Joe so-to-say. Think about it like this: Would you rather read a boring history about what happened during a certain time period 1000 years ago, or read about a real person and their views on what was happening?

Try some of these:

Descriptions of some animals that live now. Try to put as many in as you can, because you never know which ones will be extinct by then. We can guess, but we and nature may throw up a few nasty surprises.

Sarcastically gransiose belchings about our time. The only trouble is that their sense of humour might be different from ours.

You could also wish them all the best for the future.

The only trouble with all this, is that the people of the next millenium might never have an opportunity to read it. Society is likely to be radically different from ours in the same way society of the middle ages and earlier is also radically different from ours. Books from this period and earlier are rare. Rarer still are the ones still in print.

If I were you, I'd explain that our lack of respect and laziness!! How we forgot to interact with others because we were in front of a PC every spare moment we had, how reading and even writing is becoming a thing of the past.
Good luck I hope you actually get to do it, there are and always will be too many history books that will cover the present political issues, but not many that will explain the real life

Your subjective opinions about living today. Objective references about same issues, too. Do not forget pictures (because you cannot expect that people still understand even the most known objects of our days). Everything is worth to translate from English to some other important languages like Chinese, Russian and Arabic (who knows...?). Add your signature in the end of your story (do not add your phone number and e-mail address).

Tell them what a mess this (current) world is. Racial discrimination, poverty, wars ... and that we caused them all! Tell them to avoid living in the same situation again. Tell them that there's only one religion to follow, and there are 5 simple rules for happy living: 1 free your heart from hatred. 2 free your mind from worries. 3 live simply. 4 give more. 5. expect less. Tell them that it can be a beautiful world to live it, if we will it that way.

Don't write it yourself. Put together a council of say about 12 men and delegate a chapter to each one. Don't bother proof reading it - I'm sure they'll all have the same point of view.

Nothing. There will be so few people alive in a thousand years time, and none of them will be able to read.
