This is from the Behind the Music about Metallica.

Metallica and Guns & Roses were co-headlining a tour. One night in Montreal Metallica was playing first. There was an accident with some pyrotechnics on stage and James Hetfield was badly burned. Metallica had to stop their show. Guns & Roses had a chance to be heroes and put on a super show for the crowd. Instead Axl threw a hissy fit complaining of a sore throat and other crap. He stormed off the stage after only a couple of songs. When it was announced that the concert was over, enraged fans started a riot in the theatre and several people got hurt. Metallica blames Axl for being a baby and causing all the trouble.

I believe this might have started it off and I remember Lars confronting Axl saying the riot could have been prevented by G~N~R but Axl saying his voice feeling like crap...all the while he was smoking away and drinking when saying this.

"During a show in August 1992 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, Metallica frontman James Hetfield suffered severe burns after stepping too close to a pyrotechnics blast. Metallica was forced to cancel the second hour of the show, but promised to return to the city for another show. After a long delay, during which the audience became increasingly restless, Guns N' Roses took the stage. However, the shortened time between sets did not allow for adequate tuning of stage monitors resulting in musicians not being able to hear themselves. Compounding the situation were Rose's claims that he had problems with his voice which caused the band to leave the stage early. The cancellation led to another riot by audience members, reminiscent of the rioting that had occurred in St. Louis one year earlier. Rioters overturned cars, smashed windows, looted local stores and set random fires. Local authorities were barely able to bring the mob under control."

i didn't know they hated each other; Did you ever watch that show called Rockstar Supernova. It's where they find lead singers for their band; Anyway Gilby Clarke from G n R and Jason Newstead from Metallica were on the show and they are in a band together called Supernova

I think they were booked at a concert together several years ago and Axl Rose didn't show up or was too stoned and drunk and didn't show up. So the concert had to be cancelled and they didn't do a date to have it again.

They were supposed to tour together (with Faith No More) and a considerable amount of stupidity ensued with GNR, especailly with Mr. Rose and his antics, ego, etc. It was bad.

Probably for similar reasons that other bands (especially Motley Crue) don't care for GNR, Axel plays buddy-buddy with you, takes your advice, coke, women, etc and then spreads rumors about you. Ungrateful
