Hi,
I recently just recieved a large settlement from a car accident. I was wondering if it would be ok if I had my lawyer make the check out in my grandmother's name so she can deposit it in her checking account. If not, is there a way for me to put a large check that is in my name into her checking account? Thanks!

Ask your lawyer - generally settlement checks must be made payable to the individual settling the case. Why not take the check, write on the back: your signature, payable to: _________ grandmother's name, or FOR DEPOSIT ONLY, ACCOUNT # (your grandmother's account).

No it is not OK--It sounds like to me that you are trying to shield your settlement from someone. When you receive a settlement your name and social security number is on the check for income tax purpose. You also sign a release form to clear the insurance company and the other party that was involved in the accident.
You can open up a checking or saving account and deposit the check. They will hold the funds until they make sure the check has clear. You know the saying, you can not have your cake and eat it also.

You can deposit money directly in her account. Get her to give you a void check, take it in to her bank with your check from your lawyer and tell them you want to deposit this check in to the voided check account. I'm sure they will be happy to comply. My parents have done this for me before at my local bank just with my account number and no void check.
