breanna sweetie -

if you look at some of my past answers you'll see I give advice to aspiring child actors. There's nothing wrong with your dream and right now my advice is to take an acting class at your local community center, theatre company or elsewhere. Indianapolis does not have that much going on, and what there is (local commercials and stuff) you will find out about if you are taking a good acting class for youth. (I grew up in a mid-size midwest city, and people casting commercials and plays and stuff, with the occasional movie needing extras coming into town, would call the local big places that kids took acting classes.)

what scares me about your question is the last sentence "if there is something where I can just send them a pic of me..." - please believe me when I tell you that there are some pretty awful people in this world that are sooooo looking to meet a sweet, naive 11 year old girl from indiana who wants to be an actress. These are the people who will NOT make you an actress or a star, but will (at best) do something icky with your picture and (at worst) will try to meet you and hurt you. I'm dead serious about this.

Take an acting class, get involved in your community theatre, and DO NOT send your picture ANYWHERE that your parents don't know about. I think from the way you wrote the question that your parents don't support you wanting to act but that could open you up to something very dangerous. You MUST NOT meet someone by yourself, who says they have an audition or want to turn you into a model or something. YOU MUST tell your parents, NEVER give out your phone number (or even your email address.) If you do wind up getting real auditions every casting person will talk to your parents.

Please, I'm really scared for you the way you wrote the question. do me a favor, protect yourself, and don't start sending your picture to people you don't know.

The fact of the matter is that if anyone knew a solid method to get into acting, we'd have a lot more actors and actresses than we currently do. Many people get noticed by being in the right place at the right time. However, your best bet right now might be to try theatre and then make the trangression to the big screen. Not only will it teach you valuable skills, but it will also give you early oportunities to get noticed.

Indianapolis... that's a long shot at best to get into the screen. Seriously though, try a community theatre for the time being and start honing your skills.

Good luck!

It is more or less a matter of training, experience, and promotion. Those that work hard and understand the business and acting side of it will more often be given more chances to audition. Local community theater and reading plays is a good place to start, and you may want to check and see if there is an acting school near you that has childrens classes available. Also, learn as many skills as you can aside from acting, especially dance, music(performance), sports, and other languages. These all seem to be very helpful.

Ask your parents to help you find auditions in the city where you live.

Tell them to find an acting school for you to pursue your dream.

When I was your age, I read plays everyday. Ask your parents to take you to the public library where you can check-out plays at the library. The librarian can help you choose plays you may like to read.

Good luck.

There are books on the subject, too. You'll want to read up on how to memorize a monologue and learn some pieces by heart.
