How many controllers can be plugged into the Wii?

Gamecube had 4 controllers slots...does the Wii have 2 or 4 available slots?

The Wii actually has 4 ports for GameCube controllers as well, but the Wii remote is wireless (supports up to 4).

the controllers don't plug in physically, you can have up to 4 synched with one console. That means they're linked to it wirelessly, basically.
